ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol)

What is ICMP?

ICMP stands for Internet Control Message Protocol.

It is a TCP/IP stack protocol used for notifying about exception conditions that can occur in the Internet. Some of the protocol options are used for “internal” purposes only, without involving the transfer of any meaningful data.

ICMP is crucial for error reporting and testing, but it can also be used in DDoS attacks.
